Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Republic of Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev discussed bilateral ties between the two nations in a phone conversation on Wednesday. During the call, the two leaders agreed to strengthen their links and explored potential areas of cooperation in the future.

The UAE President also expressed his well-wishes for Tokayev as he celebrated his birthday, wishing him a long life filled with happiness and good health. In response, the Kazakhstan President thanked Sheikh Mohamed for the gesture and wished him good health. He also expressed his high hopes for the prosperity of the UAE and its people.

Before the phone call, Sheikh Mohamed also sent a congratulatory message to Tokayev in celebration of his birthday, reported state news agency WAM. Other leaders of the UAE also expressed their well-wishes to Tokayev, including UAE Vice President, Prime Minister, and Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum; and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Presidential Court Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Meanwhile, the recent phone call between the two leaders came four months after Sheikh Mohamed and Tokayev inked a joint agreement on the cooperation between the two countries following a Jan. 17 meeting in Abu Dhabi. The agreement involved the expansion of the political, diplomatic, trade, economic and cultural cooperation between the UAE and Kazakhstan and future partnerships in the areas of culture, tourism, education, renewable energy, mining, transport, logistics, construction, health, sports, and science.

During the January meeting both the leaders also discussed current international and regional issues of mutual interest. During that meeting, they exchanged views on issues impacting both nations and agreed to develop their bilateral cooperation in an atmosphere of mutual trust and respect. They also agreed to promote the interests of the people of both countries and further promote mutual protection of each other's investments.

In the January meeting, Sheikh Mohamed and Tokayev also held talks on the importance of strengthening the role of the United Nations (UN) in international security and sustainable development, with the Kazakh President welcoming the effective role of the UAE as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2022-2023 and thanking Sheikh Mohamed for the UAE's active participation in the Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions, which was held in late 2022.
