Airport Show's 24th Edition To Showcase Ground Handling Technologies In Dubai

The 24th edition of the Airport Show will bring together over 130 international exhibitors from 22 countries, showcasing the latest ground handling technologies.
The event, to be held from May 6 to 8 at the Dubai World Trade Centre, is designed to help global airports enhance their services, profitability, and sustainability while adhering to internationally recognized standards for reducing their carbon footprint, WAM reported.
Organizers have said that airports in the region are investing hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade infrastructure and modernize facilities, making them some of the best in the world. A key focus is the acquisition of electric ground support equipment, which aligns with sustainability goals and efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Electric ground support equipment plays a crucial role in enhancing airport performance, profitability, and readiness for the expected surge in passenger numbers in the coming years.
The exhibition will feature several pavilions, including one dedicated to the latest ground handling equipment and services, supported by dnata, along with two pavilions focused on airport technology and design.
Mai Ismail, the Events Director at RX Global, a company that organizes more than 350 global events each year, including the Airport Show, pointed out that the growing need for quicker turnaround times, better safety standards, and environmental sustainability has led airports to adopt innovative and cost-efficient ground handling solutions.
She noted that airport operators are increasingly investing in battery-powered vehicles to cut emissions. Electric ground handling equipment is transforming airport operations with cleaner, more energy-efficient technologies, and as battery costs decrease, widespread adoption of electric equipment is expected, signaling strong market growth.
Jafar Dawood, Divisional Senior Vice President for UAE Airport Operations at dnata, shared that the company's fleet strategy is focused on replacing diesel engines with electric, hybrid, or hydrogen-powered equipment.
He added that dnata has partnered with alternative fuel suppliers and recently converted its entire non-electric fleet in Dubai to biodiesel. These initiatives are part of the company's goal to reduce its carbon footprint by 50% by 2030, as outlined in their eight-year operations strategy.
Adam Vaile, Executive Director for Commercial and Accounts Airports at Vanderlande, one of the exhibitors, said that the company will showcase its latest technological innovations and demonstrate the advantages of its comprehensive baggage and passenger handling solutions.
