UAE President Sheikh Mohamed reaffirmed the country's support for Palestine on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People Tuesday.

In observance of the event, the UAE government took to its official social media accounts to acknowledge Palestine's right as an independent state.

"His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan reaffirmed the UAE's support for the Palestinians and an independent state, based on 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in a message to the UN Palestinian Rights Committee on the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People," the caption read.

The United Nations marks the day in line with the mandates of the General Assembly.

Delivering a speech at the UN headquarters in New York to observe the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also called for unity among parties, urging them to make strides to resolve their conflicts.

He further extended his invitation to the international community, calling on them to reiterate their support for Palestinians as violence and humanitarian crises continue in the occupied West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

"I am deeply saddened by the growing number of Palestinian civilians who have lost their lives in the spiral of violence engulfing the occupied West Bank. Each casualty fuels fear and yet more violence," Guterres said. "I urge all parties to take immediate steps to reduce tensions and break this deadly cycle."

The Partition Resolution, more commonly known as Resolution 181, was adopted by the UN General Assembly on Nov. 29, 1947. It calls for the partition of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states, with the city of Jerusalem, its capital, to be governed by a special international regime. Following the Palestinian Arabs and the surrounding Arab nations' outright refusal to accept the establishment of a Jewish state in the region, only one state—Israel—has prevailed in what came to be known as its War of Independence.

To this day, Resolution 181 remains relevant as it confirms the recognition of the international community that the Jewish people deserve their own state in their historical homeland. It also acknowledges that the Jewish and the Arabs have their own national aspirations for their respective populations.
