Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Etihad Rail started the first passenger rail journey between Abu Dhabi and Al Dhannah cities, a move that will boost UAE's economic growth and infrastructure.

Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Managing Director and Group CEO of the ADNOC and members of ADNOC's Executive Leadership team were among the first passengers.

ADNOC and Etihad Rail signed a deal in November 2023 to establish railway services between Abu Dhabi City and Al Dhannah.

The project is currently under development and once it becomes operational, ADNOC's staff and contractors will also be able to travel between Abu Dhabi and Al Dhannah cities alongside other passengers.

"ADNOC's partnership with Etihad Rail is fully aligned with our strategic priorities to successfully implement transport solutions that contribute to the UAE's development and future prosperity," Al Jaber said, WAM reported.

He appreciated the Chairman of Etihad Rail Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan's visionary directives and supervision for the development of passenger rail services, which will help the UAE's main centers of trade, industry, manufacturing, production, logistics and population.

This project will have more than one rail network and serve as vital routes for economic growth and infrastructure development.

"I am proud of our world-class facilities in Al Ruwais Industrial City and the commitment and dedication of our staff, who are passionate to showcase our unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation. Our facilities and expert workforce play a pivotal role in enhancing our nation's status as a responsible and reliable global energy leader," he added.

CEO of Etihad Rail Shadi Malak also commented on this collaboration and said they are proud to have a "strategic partner and customer such as ADNOC," who were one of the first companies to adopt rail transportation solutions in the Middle Eastern country.

He added, "As part of our ongoing efforts to establish strategic partnerships in the public and private sectors, we continue to work to develop an integrated transportation system in the country" under the supervision and leadership of Etihad Rail chairman Al Nahyan.

Malak noted that "Etihad Rail is strengthening the position that the UAE enjoys as a leading global hub within the logistics, transportation and infrastructure sectors, by providing more effective and reliable transportation solutions."

Last month, ADNOC announced that it has become an official partner of the Egyptian Premier League professional sports club.
