The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed over AED 1.9 billion worth of deals in the first two days of the sixth edition of UMEX and SimTEX 2024.

Tawazun Council's official spokesperson Zayed Saeed Al Meraikhi made this announcement during a press conference on Wednesday in the presence of the Chief of Corporate Communication at Tawazun Council Mona Ahmed Al Jaber and other senior officials and representatives of local and intentional media.

Tawazun Council - the United Arab Emirates (UAE) defense and security acquisitions authority for the MoD - signed five deals on the second day while the first five contracts were signed on the first day of the event.

Al Meraikhi noted that the second day contracts were valued at AED 939 million including two deals with the EDGE Group. The first contract is worth AED 220 million to procure drone systems while the second one is worth AED 708 million for the purchase of defense systems and Anti-drone guns.

The other deals include an agreement with the National Center of Meteorology worth AED 639,000 and another deal with Gulf United Integrated MultiTech Solutions to procure robots at a value of AED 8 million.

Furthermore, Star Ling Spatial Communications signed deal worth AED 2 million for providing communication bands.

"We are proud of the achievements made by the Emirati defense industries as the country is confidently striding to develop a sophisticated defense industry that is driven by national capabilities," Al Meraikhi said, WAM reported.

"This sector will offer comprehensive and effective solutions, further solidifying the UAE's position as a regional center for advanced defense industries," he added.

The spokesperson further said the event provides a "platform to highlight the advancements in simulation, training, and unmanned systems within the domains of defense and security," noting that this "remarkable and rapid development of these sectors contributes to the initiatives aimed at bolstering industrial and defense capabilities."

This year's UMEX and SimTEX 2024 event is being held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre between Jan. 23 and Jan. 25. The three-day event has been organized by ADNEC Group and the Ministry of Defense of the UAE.
